Page 1 of 2 MRE confab invades Washington by Sig Christenson Military Reporters & Editors WASHINGTON - Retired Army Lt. Gen. Ricardo Sanchez, who led U.S. ground troops in the first critical year of Iraq's occupation, accused politicians of putting their own personal ambitions ahead of the needs of their troops, and predicted that the "nightmare" of a war without end looms unless leaders here make a dramatic U-turn. "A Japanese proverb says, 'Action without vision is a nightmare. There is no question that America is living a nightmare with no end in sight," Sanchez, 56, of San Antonio, said Friday at the 6th annual Military Reporters & Editors conference. "Since 2003, the politics of war have been characterized by partisanship as the Republican and Democratic parties struggled for power in Washington. Efforts to date have been corrupted by partisan politics that have prevented us from devising effective, executable, supportable solutions."
Combative and sometimes angry, Sanchez lambasted the media as well as national leaders for compounding a series of mistakes that began well before the March 19, 2003 invasion, saying U.S. leaders suffered from "an absolute lack of moral courage" to anticipate the myriad outcomes of America's rule in Baghdad. He did not identify President Bush or any other leader as being responsible for the blunders that sparked the Iraqi insurgency and failed efforts since then to stabilize the country. But Sanchez, who became a controversial figure after the Abu Ghraib scandal and ultimately was forced to retire as a result of it, said some reporters he'd never met described him as "dictatorial and somewhat dense," "does not get it" and "the most inexperienced lieutenant general." "This is the worst display of journalism imaginable by those of us that are bound by a strict value system of selfless service, honor and integrity," he said. "Almost invariably, my perception is that the sensationalistic value of these assessments is what provided the edge that you seek for self-aggrandizement or to advance your individual question for getting on the front page with your stories."

Written by Brooksbank on 2007-12-14 09:48:47 We feed the poor, We rebuild other countries, We our the worlds salvation, We open our borders, We do this, we do that, but you know what, we the people don't do shit, but bitch and be two faced about everything...They do, our brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, moms, dads and uncles. They fight for us, they fight for others while We sit by and bitch, moan and complain about what, what We sent them there to do... (We the government), when was the last time We called you on the phone and said, hey " Were gonna do this" is that ok with you??? No voting does not count, because We controls that too, take the blinders off people... If our men and women of the US military are loosing their rights everyday what the hell do you think you are loosing??? There is no more we the people it is only the government using the word We to make you feel special and involved... But We can beat US down in the media, in newspapers and broadcast it throught the whole fucking world that We do not support US. There are over 1 million homeless vets, disabled vets, widows and children that have lost something very important to them, We do not give a shit about them... My grandfather was a WWII vet, decorated, (purple heart) I might add, When I made the funeral arrangements for him, you know what I got from We...NOTHING as well as a million others... I got a generic letter from good ol Clinton, that was stamped not signed, NO FLAG, and no We to come out and pay their respects, oh and 239.00 for his time served...Want to know what We got in return... 25.00 for the fucking letter and if I wanted more letters to share with his loved ones it was 10.00 for every xtra letter I requested... These soldiers have their own reasons for going to the service, because We said that their loved ones needed them for protection, because they love their families and their country... Why can't We support them, love them, respect them and honor them and take care of them, why do We always turn our backs on US, the traitors and the haters of the world love to hear this shit on the news, how We don't even support US anymore. One day We will be sorry when US turns their backs on them and says no more, US is tired, hungry, poor, homeless and hopeless, We build them up and send them out, US should let We fight for themselves until US gets what it deserves... How can We be one nation when it is US that stand alone, this world has come to be what the enemy has wanted and what We don't give a shit about anymore, US has become divided against our own. How can We let US feel that they and their brothers and sisters have died for nothing???

I find his time more reflective of poor leadership and less interest in the national interest than in his own self interest. Had Generals Patton and MacArthur still be around, Sanchez would have been broken down to parade rest and given a ticket home. | Written by imager30 on 2007-12-26 12:08:08 I need to slow down the typing or speed up my brain. The comment above should read: General Sanchez's comments would have more meaning and would have been more helpful, if true, had they been made before he was safely retired. I find his timing more reflective of his poor leadership and his lesser interest in the welfare of the nation than his own legacy. Had Generals Patton and MacArthur still been around today, Sanchez would have been broken down to parade rest and given an involuntary ticket home. "Doc" MacDonald, HMCS(SS), USN, Ret. |
