My name is PFC Joseph J. Fontenot, I am currently deployed to the 2nd ID in S. Korea, I will be headed back stateside in May, and will be with the 101st at Ft. Campbell. Before joining the ARMY I was in the metal band Jacknife, we were on tour, and happened to be playing in New York only a few blocks from ground zero. I walked to ground zero in the middle of the night, and it took my breathe away to see the destruction that was caused on 9/11..... Write Comment (0 Comments) |

Update from Cpl M: Welcome readers of Conservative Thinking, Wizbang, The Jawa Report, Town Hall (Mary Katharine HamKatie Favazza), Wide Awakes Radio, and Gribbit's Word! Why don't you browse a bit of our blog while you are here? Feel free to use the email links to the right if you would like to contact any of the authors. Also don't be afraid to register so that you can comment on articles. Bloggers, email me if you have linked this article so that I may greet your readers. and A Soldier's Perspective is now firmly in the lead thanks to all of you. All of us at ASP are appreciative beyond anything you could imagine, and I'm sure the Ballerinas will be, too! While we have a firm lead as of now, that can quickly disappear as it has already happened once. We still need everyone to vote! Remember, the money is being donated to the Camp Lejeune Ballerinas. Vote HERE. The contest ends in a little under five days! The Prizes: We are awarding $250 to the top 10 military related blogs, according to votes from our users. And the top military blog will receive a total of $3,000. Thanks for all you've done so far, but this is the final stretch. I've decided to pimp myself for votes after work. It may work, but I'm afraid it'll backfire like it did for Matt from Blackfive when I started showing naked pictures him. Old News: Ladies and Gentlemen, ASP is back in the lead. . .by one vote . A good friend of mine helped put out the word on several different blogs, one of them high profile, and it has helped us make a strong move. Thank you, Chris. Remember, the money is being donated to the Camp Lejeune Ballerinas. WE'VE LOST THE LEAD!! My a difference a matter of hours makes. SGT Hook has been drafting B5 for some time now, but made his move to pass and slingshotted past us as well. We gotta be relentless. Those little girls need us more than that. Don't forget to vote! We're a little late in this game, but the VA Mortgage Center is sponsoring a contest to find the top 10 military blogs with the possibility of guest blogger status at their new blog. Update from CJ: Current standing is ASP in the lead with 268 votes, followed by Blackfive (251) and SGT Hook (232). Hook is coming up strong, so don't let down your guard. Thanks for everything you're doing. Keep spreading the word and helping us make this a reality for these little girls. The race is heating up. With only one week left to go, we're in the lead, but we still need your help. If you have a blog and you have one reader or 40,000,000 please post this contest there. If you have a mailing list, send it out to everyone you know. If you're a member of an online group, post something on the message board. "It takes a village." (Did I just quote Hillary?). Go to work and tell your friends and coworkers, tell your fellow day care parents, write your Congressman. If you speak another language, call the embassies of the world. If your camel has internet access (David), sign him up. It's free an only takes a few seconds. Remember, the money is being donated to the Camp Lejeune Ballerinas. The rest of this article follows in the extended section. Any further updates will be placed here. Update from Cpl M: I just heard from CJ that we have tied Blackfive for the lead, and Sgt Hook is very close with 209. Thank you to everyone that has voted! They have announced that the poll will close on 23 January at noon CST, so there is still a good amount of time left in the contest. I you haven't taken a moment to vote, please do so. Remember all proceeds are going to the Camp Lejeune Ballerinas. I just got the email about it. We need your help. We get about 500 or so unique visitors here every day and we appreciate it. If each of you just take a few seconds and vote, we stand a great chance of winning. Please head over to the VA Mortgage Center website and click the bubble to vote for A Soldier's Perspective. It's the third or forth from the bottom one. Please pass the link along to your friends and mailing lists as well. Proceeds will go to the Camp Lejeune Ballerinas. They are trying to raise money to purchase lifesize cutouts of deployed fathers that the girls can dance with onstage and send to their dads in Iraq. So, get off your tuff and VOTE! Additionally, don't forget to check their mortgage options. This is one of the few places I believe in enough to advertise for on this site. Look around the main site and see if you can yourself, or a vet, some money as well. Write Comment (0 Comments) |

The mission of Let's Say Thanks is to provide a way for individuals across the country to recognize U.S. troops stationed overseas. By submitting a message through this site you have the opportunity to send a free personalized postcard greeting to deployed servicemen and women. The postcards, depicting patriotic scenes and hometown images, were selected from a pool of entries from children across the country. All you have to do is click on your favorite design and either select the message that best expresses your sentiment or draft a personal note. The postcards are then printed on the Xerox iGen3® Digital Production Press and mailed in care packages by military support organization Give2TheTroops®. Xerox is committed to helping people across the nation express their gratitude to our troops overseas. The launch of this program is aimed at reminding them how much Americans appreciate their service. Visit Letssaythanks.com

They won when... When we went to war using fear as the reason. When it was excuse to do what he wanted. When we lost our way. When freedom is behind bars. And torture is OK for special reasons. To ease our fear. They won already.

This is a picture of Mike McNaughton of Denham Springs, LA. He stepped on a land mine in Afghanistan Christmas 2002. President Bush came to visit the wounded in the hospital. He told Mike that when he could run a mile that they would go on a run together.

ABOUT US On May 29th, two journalists were killed and one severely injured by an IED in Iraq. Every media outlet in the country seemed to trip all over themselves trying to tell the American people about these "brave journalists". There were specials aired during prime time, full front page articles on almost every national newspaper and most local papers. And in every single article was this vague and nonspecific notation: "A U.S. soldier and an Iraqi translator also died in the blast." Who was this "U.S. soldier"? For days, he endured anonymity for his sacrifice while these journalists whom he'd given his life to protect were paraded throughout the media as martyrs. I made it my goal in life to find out who he was and tell his story. He was not just "a U.S. soldier" to me. He was a brother. He was father. He was a son. And he had a name. They have names was created to in order to pay proper respects for our fallen heroes. All too often, these Troops are relegated to mere numbers by the press. Their stories are unknown. Their lives are unkown. And their names are unknown. Their sacrifice is impersonal and taken for granted. To many Americans, they are faceless figures. They are not enigmas - They Have Names. At the time of this writing, over 3000 troops have been killed in Iraq alone. Each and every one of them has unique talents, hobbies, families, and histories. Each of them had a reason that led them to serve in one of our nation's armed forces. These people are not mere numbers - They Have Names. This site is dedicated to the memory of CPT James "Alex" Funkhouser, who gave me the motivation to share the stories of our fallen heroes. Visit theyhavenames.com Write Comment (0 Comments) |

Donate Now Fund Raising Drive Goal: $2,500 We need money to take our project to the next level. We have additional projects that we will be launching and hope to attract corporations to donate good and services to the families of the fallen soldiers. The reach of our site, and size of our registered members will directly impact our leverage in making this happen. This project was started because two gentlemen got tired of watching the unabated attacks by the media and opportunistic politicians and we wanted to give voice to the fighting men and women, their experiences, needs and stories. We have never physically met. We have no office, use our personal contacts to cajole, plead and intimidate talented people we know to roll-up their sleeves and contribute. We need your help. Nearly 3,000 men and women have lost their lives. That’s 3000 families state side that have suffered a loss that no amount of money can ever replace. We seek to do our best to identify corporations that can provide goods and services to these families to make their burden maybe just a little bit smaller. There are the wounded. Tens of thousands. These are the true heroes and we need your help to sustain and expand our efforts to do what little we can to try and help. Finally, we need your help to fight a battle stateside-against the “old media”, intellectual elites and enemies of our country and their propaganda machines. Our goal is to hit the “enemy” (you listening NYTimes, Google & CNN?) where it hurts-with their advertisers. We need your help to expose and defeat political candidates whose candidacy jeopardizes the lives of our military personnel and their ability to do their mission. We Need Your Trust We can not reveal the specifics of our game plan for the same reason that no team tells the other what their strategy is. We ask you to trust that we are going to do our very best on behalf of these cause to further the interests of the U.S and the free world, and combat the forces of darkness. If you can give-please do. If not –please register. Our reach and our community determine the leverage that we have in our activities. God Bless…. Donate Now Fund Raising Drive Goal: $2,500

Initially, we started raising money (see here) for hospice care here in Germany. We're now looking at a move to the States. However, this will result in a 33% pay cut due to loss of COLA, plus moving expenses, change in TriCare coverage, etc. Also, as some of you have learned, there will be an impending expense which I cannot discuss on this blog. All said, we thank each and every one of you for any and all help you can send. The accounts are drying up, but y'all have been SO generous. Thank you. Write Comment (0 Comments) |
